By Greg Perkins The Roadrunners stopped a three-game skid Tuesday night with a 53-42 home court win over Tuba City’s Warriors. In their past three games, Holbrook faced perhaps its toughest stretch in their schedule and came away with hard fought losses to Winslow, Snowflake and Valley Christian, three teams ranked in the top 10 in power points. Tuesday night they faced the 21st ranked Warriors and set the tone early with five three-point shots in the opening period, three from long distance specialist Abrian Dickson. Holbrook led by eight after the first, then clamped down on defense in the second to limit Tuba City to just four points while building a 31-17 halftime lead. Benson Davis connected twice from long range in the third and Dickson added another to his total as Holbrook pushed the margin to 44-26. In the final eight minutes the Warriors hit some desperation threes late to make the final score 53-42, but the game was never really that close. Dickson led Holbrook with 22 points, including six three pointers. Nathan Johnson added 9; Davis, 8; Elliot Pete, 5; Brandon Kester, 4; Rhett Desiderio, 3; and Miireux Begaii, 2. The Birds made a total of 10 two-point field goals, hit 11 from behind the arc and went three for six at the free throw line. Tuba City connected on just four three-point shots and went four for six at the line. With the win the Roadrunners improved to 18-6 on the season and pushed their power point record to 8-4. They will face the Bulldogs in Winslow on Saturday, Jan. 23, then play at Northland Prep on Monday, Jan. 25, in Flagstaff. On Wednesday, Jan. 27, Window Rock and former Holbrook Coach Raul Mendoza visit Muñoz Gym.
