The Holbrook Roadrunners picked up their first win of the football season on Friday with an 18-8 win over visiting Window Rock.
In a turnover plagued game the Birds were able to build a 12-0 halftime lead, then tacked on an insurance score in the fourth period to secure the win.
Holbrook forced five turnovers by Window Rock, but also threw five interceptions and gave away two fumbles to balance things out in that department.
Michael Kennedy completed eight of 20 passes for 137 yards with one score, but did have the five picks. C.J. Plumb completed one of three attempts for 23 yards with a touchdown. Torrian Epps completed his only pass for one yard.
As a receiver, Epps hauled in six catches for 129 yards with one touchdown. Sheldon Silversmith had two grabs for 25 yards and a score. Frank Martin and Rashaun Baldwin each made one catch in the win.
On the ground, the Birds were led by Dylan Barela with 53 yards on 10 carries with a touchdown. James Self also carried the ball 10 times, gaining 48 yards. Shem Bowman had two totes for 13 yards.
Defensively, the Roadrunners were carried by Drew Shumway and Baldwin with nine tackles each. Self added six stops with one sack. Jamerrino White made five tackles. Lanny Newton-Pender was credited with two quarterback sacks. Kennedy had one interception and Bowman recovered three Scout fumbles.

With the win, the Roadrunners move to 1-3 on the season. Points will be difficult to come by this week when the Roadrunners travel to Lakeside to face the top ranked Blue Ridge Yellowjackets. Blue Ridge was state runner-up last year, and has its sights set on returning to the state title game again this year. Holbrook’s goal through this next three-week stretch will be to play well and stay healthy enough to have a shot at an improved Chinle on homecoming night.
