The Roadrunners opened East Region play on March 10 on the road at Show Low. The Birds ventured into the game still searching for their first full game and first win of the season. Unfortunately neither of those happened with Show Low winning the game 18-1 in five innings of play.
Holbrook bats were held silent by Cougar pitching, which gave up no hits on the day. Holbrook scored their only run in the top of the fifth when Adrian Aguilera drew a walk, then stole a base and eventually scored.
Holbrook did well enough through the first two frames, giving up just two runs in the first and another single run in the second. The third inning was a different story. Show Low scored 12 runs in the inning then added another three in the fourth to lead 18-0.
The Birds utilized three pitchers in the loss. Corey Zalenski allowed eight runs on five hits, with three walks. Jagger Buckley gave up one run on four hits, with a pair of walks and three strikeouts. Izzy Ramos allowed six runs on six hits, with a walk and two strikeouts.
Holbrook’s regular season mark fell to 0-5 with the loss.
