Baseball 3 Holbrook

By Greg Perkins Holbrook’s baseball team will enter this week on the heels of a two-game winning streak after their 9-1 home field win over Joseph City on Friday. The Roadrunners defeated St. Johns last Saturday and had all week to prepare for the Wildcats. Holbrook took the early lead with two in the bottom of the first, then after Joseph City scored their only run in the second, the home team pushed three more across in the home half of the second to lead 5-1. Holbrook added three more in the fifth and one final run in the bottom of the sixth to win the game 9-1. Holbrook pounded out 14 hits against Wildcat pitching. Isreal Ramos led the way going 3 for 3. John O’Brien was 3 for 4, with a triple; Marcus Oberriter went 2 for 4; Daniel Montijo 2 for 4, with two doubles; and Jesse Knight and Carson Hatch also hit doubles. Zachary Pete, Manuel Baca, Jesse Knight and Carson Hatch all had one hit in the win. Baco pitched all seven innings giving up just one run on six hits, with two walks and struck out five Wildcat batters. Things will get tougher this week for the Roadrunners. They will face a one loss Snowflake team on back-to-back days, with Tuesday’s game playing in Snowflake and a Wednesday game at home. On Friday, the Roadrunners stay in east region play, with a home game with Show Low. Next Tuesday they face the Cougars in Show Low. Holbrook enters this week with an overall record of 2-3, and they are still searching for their initial east region win.
