Football Holbrook

By Greg Perkins The Roadrunners had a good season come to an end on Friday night in Willcox. Ninth seeded Holbrook had to travel to face the eighth seeded Cowboys and the host team forced five Holbrook turnovers scoring enough points in the process to outlast Holbrook 42-32, ending Holbrook’s season in the first round of the 2A State playoffs. Holbrook was able to move the ball on the ground a little piling up 165 yards rushing. Marcus Oberriter rushed 13 times, gaining 70 yards. Izzy Ramos picked up 48 yards and one score on 10 carries. Daniel Montijo rushed eight times, gaining 26 yards and scoring once. Kyle Smith carried twice, gaining 21 yards. Holbrook’s passing offense struggled. Oberriter completed just nine of his 27 attempts for 219 yards. He did have two touchdowns but also threw five interceptions as he spent much of the game trying to elude Willcox’s pass rush. Willcox on the other hand threw the ball just twice, completing both passes. On the ground they were dominant rolling up 331 rushing yards. Junior running back Cristian Pando carried his team with 31 rushes for 208 yards and five touchdowns. Marcus Olivares carried 18 times gaining 122 yards. Holbrook puts a cap on their season with an overall record of 7-3. With the majority of their skill players only juniors they should be expected to compete for another 2A Little Colorado Region title again next year.
