With just one regular season match left, Snowflake’s boys’ soccer team sits in good position to make the state tournament. The Lobos entered this week ranked eighth in the standings and with just one match left against the winless Basis School, it would appear the Lobos will finish inside the top eight in the rankings and therefore qualify for the post season.

Snowflake split their two matches played last week. On Oct. 22 they traveled to Page and returned home with a 4-1 win. Thursday’s home field match up with St. Johns was a defensive battle, which the Lobos eventually lost 0-1. The Lobos head into Wednesday’s regular season finale with a record of 7-3-1.

The Lady Lobos had just one match last week played on Wednesday in a 0-1 home field loss to St. Johns. Snowflake really needed that win to put themselves into a position for an outside chance at the state tournament. With only six teams in girls’ soccer making the post season it appears Snowflake, (ranked seventh entering this week) will be on the outside looking in when the state tournament begins.

Snowflake does have two chances left to pick up enough points to get into the top six. However, they will have to upset one of the two teams ahead of them in the rankings. After playing at No. 3 Show Low on Tuesday, the Lobos will close out the regular season at No. 5 Blue Ridge on Thursday. Snowflake has a 5-5 record heading into their final two matches.
