The Roadrunners had climbed to number seven in the Division IV power point soccer rankings at the beginning of this week. Their 6-1 regular season mark has been impressive, but their first loss came at home last Thursday.

Playing in St. Johns on Sept. 20, the Roadrunners headed for home with a 3-2 win in their pocket. Theron Johns scored two of the three goals, picking up assists from Andrew Dawson and Alec Smith. Smith also took an assist from Trevor Barton to score the decisive third goal.

During homecoming week last Thursday Holbrook welcomed in the Cougars from Show Low and suffered their first loss of the season by a final of 2-1. The Roadrunners’ lone goal came on an indirect kick outside the box. James Ramirez delivered an excellent cross that resulted in a beautiful Johns header. Ramirez and Dominick Spencer were credited for doing an awesome job at midfield for Holbrook. The McClellan twins, Micah and Levi, were rock solid in the middle on defense. Carlos Quintana finished the match with 10 saves in goal.

Holbrook traveled to Round Valley on Saturday, facing the Elks for the third time this season. As in the first two outings, the Birds again came away with the win, this time by a final of 5-3 despite missing a couple of players. Alec Smith had a hat trick for Holbrook, finding the back of the net three times. Jordan Smith led the team by assisting on three of the five goals. Johns and Ramirez also scored goals in the win. Quintana again played well in goal, keeping the team in the game with seven saves.

After hosting St. Michaels at home on Thursday, Holbrook will travel to 10th ranked Snowflake on Tuesday, Oct. 7. The Lobos head into this match with a regular season mark of 2-4.
