By Greg Perkins Holbrook’s boys’ soccer team is 2-5 on the regular season but their recent play has shown vast improvement as indicated by three tournament wins over the weekend. Holbrook played tough in the dome in Round Valley on Wednesday last week but fell 1-2. Over the weekend they were in Tucson competing in the Old Pueblo Soccer Classic. On Friday they defeated Bisbee 6-0, then took care of Benson 7-1. Holbrook, ranked 19th in the 2A rankings kept up that momentum early Saturday morning with a 6-3 win over fourth ranked St. Augustine. Their final match of the tournament was a 2-4 loss to 11th ranked Desert Christian. This week the Roadrunners will host Show Low on Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. Next week they will host Snowflake on Wednesday. The Lady Roadrunners found themselves ranked ninth after their 2-1 road win at Page on Tuesday last week. That win pushed their regular season mark to 3-3 at the time, which is a three-win improvement over last season. Holbrook did fall to second ranked Chino Valley 0-10 at home on Friday night. This week the Ladies, now 3-4 overall, will host Round Valley on Thursday night. Next week they play twice. After hosting Snowflake on Tuesday, they will travel to Round Valley on Saturday the 16th.
