By Greg Perkins The Roadrunners got back into the win column last Friday afternoon with an impressive 11-1, five-inning road victory at Window Rock. The Holbrook squad started slowly with just a single run in the first, but then unleashed the bats, scoring five second-inning runs and four more in the third to take a commanding lead. The Roadrunners tacked on an 11th run in the top of the fourth. When the Scouts managed only one in the bottom of the fourth that was enough to end the game under the mercy rule. Buddy Wagoner worked three innings on the hill facing just 10 batters. He gave up no hits with five strikeouts and walked just one. Lanny Newton-Pender worked the final two innings, facing only nine Scout batters. He allowed one earned run on one hit with two walks and had three strikeouts. At the plate Holbrook pounded out 11 hits. Scottie Gishie was 2 for 3 with a double, a walk, three RBIs and scored twice. Trevor Barton went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and scored twice. Carlos Quintana was 2 for 3 with a double, two RBIs and scored once. Nick Robinson went 1 for 4 with a double and two RBIs. Newton-Pender was 1 for 4. Nikko Ferniza went 0 for 3, but reached on an error, stole a base and scored a run. Wagoner went 1 for 1, walked twice and scored three runs. Julian Garcia went 1 for 3 and scored once. Ben Nafziger was 1 for 2 with an RBI and scored once. Holbrook played error free ball in the contest. With the win the Roadrunners improved to 2-7-1 on the season. After playing in Chinle on Tuesday, where they will most likely pick up their third win of the season, they will have the remainder of the week off for spring break. They will return to action on Monday, March 31, when they host the Mogollon Mustangs.
