Holbrook’s girls and boys basketball teams will get their seasons underway this week. Both teams will have played host to Chinle on Monday, then the boys’ team will be in action at the Ben Franklin/Gilbert Christian Thanksgiving Classic held on Friday and Saturday. The Lady Roadrunners will be off for the holiday break and both teams will return to action next Tuesday when they welcome in Window Rock.
Last year the Lady Roadrunners went 14-4 in regular season games finishing as the fifth ranked team in the 3A state bracket. They received a first round bye, then were upset by No. 12th seeded Monument Valley in the second round of the playoffs. Holbrook graduated six senior guards off that team and will field a relatively young team this season.
The boys team went 4-14 last year but did reach the state tournament as the 22nd overall seed. They had their season closed out in the first round of the state tournament with a 10-point loss to 11th seeded American Leadership Academy. The boys will face Miami and American Leadership on Friday at the 10-team Thanksgiving tournament.
