Members of the Holbrook City Council welcomed Phillip Rose as the new chief of the Holbrook Volunteer Fire Department after a unanimous approval of his appointment at their Jan. 10 meeting.
Rose has served on the city’s fire department for 12 years, volunteering his time as he also works a fulltime job as a manager at Unisource.
Rose thanked the city officials, and offered a special thank you to his wife Melinda and son Logan, who were also present at the meeting.
Vice Mayor Wade Carlisle commended Rose for his service, as did the rest of the council.
“This is an all volunteer fire department and there is nothing else like this in the state. We spend thousands while other cities pay millions, and we couldn’t do that without volunteers,” said the vice mayor.
He added that the police and fire departments are a priority for the city when it comes to funding. “The public sees the parks and amenities and that’s what you see every day so you think that should be the priority. But you protect our homes and buildings, and that’s a matter of high importance,” said Carlisle, adding that Rose’s point of contact is the city manager and to be certain to inform him of what is needed to ensure the needs of the department are met.
Each of the council members congratulated Rose and although he wasn’t present, the council thanked outgoing chief Carey Simpson for his service and dedication.
