In a unanimous vote by the Holbrook City Council during a special meeting held May 25, former Councilman Richard Peterson was appointed to fill the council position recently vacated by former Vice Mayor Matt Searles.

Peterson had just left the council the evening before.

Noting that Peterson was the next highest vote getter in the recent election, and that Peterson had done a “remarkable” job during his time on the council, Mayor Jeff Hill said he felt Peterson was the right nominee for the job, and asked Councilman Phil Cobb to make a motion for nomination.

Peterson will serve on the Holbrook City Council until his term ends in 2013.

He was previously appointed to the council in January 2010 to fill the vacancy left when former Councilman Kent Darris resigned.

Peterson is a teacher of economics and government at Holbrook High School.
