Peter S. Tafoya

It is with great sadness that the family of Peter S. Tafoya announces his passing after a brief battle with cancer. On Monday, Oct. 14, 2019, at the age of 63, we lost a father, son, husband, brother, Papa and a teacher of getting things done. His final days were spent at home surrounded by his family.

Services were held on Oct. 18, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church; he was laid to rest at the Holbrook Cemetery.

Pete was born on Dec. 31, 1955, in Holbrook. The youngest of five siblings born to Manuel Baca Tafoya and Genevieve Velasquez Tafoya.

Pete was raised in Holbrook and graduated from Holbrook High School in 1974. Pete had several jobs through the years but his last and most enjoyable was being self-employed with Tafoya Repair Services. He enjoyed helping other people and fixing things, which is something he taught his boys. He would tell them to do it yourself even if it means failing 20 times before it’s fixed because there is no satisfaction in paying someone to do what you can do yourself.

Pete is survived by his wife of 38 years, Teri McKee Tafoya of Holbrook; son, Devon and his wife Jacque and their daughter Emma; and son, Patrick and his partner Brittnay Lamb and their daughter Aubree, all of San Tan Valley; his mother Genevieve Tafoya of Holbrook; brother, Manuel Tafoya and his wife Patsy of Tucson; sisters, Rosemary Tafoya of Show Low and Deborra Tafoya of Holbrook; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. His pride and joy were his beautiful granddaughters.

Pete is preceded in death by his father Manuel Tafoya and brother Johnny “JT” Tafoya.

Pete grew up hunting, fishing and camping with his family and passed that love and compassion onto his boys as well. He enjoyed relaxing and spending time under the Ponderosa Pines with his boys, brother, family and friends. Time in the pines will always feel a bit empty without him.

Owens Livingston Mortuary of Holbrook handled the arrangements.
