The Opening Ceremony at the 87th Navajo County Fair was montage of singing, laughter and welcome speeches, with the performances by the Hayes Sisters from Winslow and the students from Holbrook’s Park and Hulet elementary schools.
Master of Ceremonies J.R. DeSpain started the event with the ticket give away for kids 12 years and younger, who could answer questions on the history of the fair and other trivia.
Navajo County officials that attended the ceremonies were Supervisor Dawnafe Whitesinger, County Manager Glenn Kephart, Recorder Doris Clark, Elections Director Rayleen Richards and Sheriff KC Clark. Navajo County Fair President Mike Sample also lent a hand.
The Navajo County Honor Guard assisted by the Birdsprings veterans’ organization, presented the colors while Abby Carlisle, a student at Holbrook High School, sang the National Anthem.
Holbrook City Councilwoman Francie Payne gave a brief speech saying that the fair was one of the best investments the city makes saying, “On behalf of the city staff and council of Holbrook, we welcome you to the fair.”
Kephart thanked all the volunteers and sponsors who help to put on the fair. “It takes the whole group to make this happen. I am thrilled to be a part of this.”
