Kelly Kinghorn is now in charge of the Roadrunner football program. Coach Kinghorn was an assistant in the past, but now is in charge of trying to turn around what has been a struggling program in recent history.
“As far as expectations, I believe they are quite low from others based on our history,” said the coach. “We expect to compete in every game and to win. We have a good group of seniors returning this year. We are working hard to change the culture and performance in the program in order to make HHS relevant in football.”
Those seniors he talked about include an amazing 26 players currently on the roster. Some notable returners from last year include quarterback Ryan Short, running back Zakhari Waits and receiver Cole McDaniel. They will be tasked with leading not only their fellow classmates, but also nine juniors and eight sophomores in what they all hope will be a turnaround year.
Holbrook opens the season on Saturday, Aug. 26, when the Roadrunners face Wickenburg at 7 p.m. at the dome in Flagstaff. The Birds will play at home for the first time on Friday, Sept. 1, when they host Monument Valley.
