To learn more about the historical society and volunteer service opportunities, contact any board member or call the secretary/treasurer at 524-6886. A goal of the historical society and its mission is to bring history to life through exhibits and displays in the museum that tell the story of early Holbrook and its people, businesses and how they have contributed to today’s Holbrook. Who sat in that chair, or used that tool or household item? The society has a large collection of varied items contributed by many individuals and families. An effort is being made to arrange exhibits that tell a story or demonstrate a previous era. This is a major task, as the society’s museum collection is so diversified in nature, and the board hopes to continue a pattern of interpretation that is interesting and informative for visitors. The steps of this project will take time and the effort of many people. Public participation in this endeavor is possible as volunteers, or through a secured temporary exhibit of personal collections, photos and documents that outline a significant contribution to the development of Holbrook and the surrounding area. Arrangements for exhibit space may be made to highlight a family’s history, or a former business’ growth and contribution to the community. There are many stories, legends and other facets of history that are just waiting to be shared. The museum isoperated and maintained by the Navajo County Historical Society and can be utilized to present these legacies to the public. Stop by the museum, which is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day except for holidays. The museum office is open weekday mornings, or call 524-6558 and let the society know that you are planning a visit. In addition, any board member can assist you.
