Navajo County Fair Inc. held its annual meeting Jan. 4, adding new members to fill seats on the fair board and selecting officers.
The fair board consists of 21 seats and 20 of those seats were filled. There were seven seats available on the board, with the terms of Jason Lewis, Wes DeSpain, Leah Thomas, Mark Reynolds, Melissa Buckley, Steve Gouker and Fred Peterson expiring. Lewis, Thomas and DeSpain sought to retain their seats and two more people, former board member Anna Amos and fair volunteer Ginny Arthur of Holbrook, submitted letters requesting to be on the board.
Since the number of vacancies was less than those needed to fill the board, a motion was made and unanimously approved to suspend the rules and cast a ballot accepting all applicants.
The board then selected officers for the coming year. With no other nominees, a motion was made and unanimously approved to retain all officers who served in the previous year, including President Mike Sample, Vice President Rusty DeSpain, Treasurer Valerie Slade and Secretary Redgie Justman.
Other members include Jeremy Browning, Heather Scott, Marshall Losey, J.R. DeSpain, Bill Elkins, Hoby Wilhelm, Paul Van Zelf, Jennifer Wilbanks, Chad Zenff and Spencer Huish.
The board also acknowledged Paul Van Zelf and Valerie Slade as Co-Board Members of the Year.
A regular meeting followed. The board approved three requests for facilities use. Members also discussed entertainment for the upcoming fair and considered the purchase of a new welder to replace one that was stolen last year, but no action was taken on those items.
