The Lobos have logged 16 games prior to the Christmas break and nine of those have been wins against seven losses. Last week the Lobos picked up two regular season wins, one at Florence and the other at Valley, before dropping their first regular season contest of the year on the home court to Page on Saturday afternoon.
Facing the Gophers in Florence on Tuesday of last week, the Lobos withstood a four-player assault by Florence to win a thriller, 64-62. Florence’s 62 points were scored by just four players with Malik Payton netting 26 of those points.
Thursday night the Lobos were in Sanders where they used a big second quarter to defeat the Pirates 70-59. Snowflake held a two-point cushion after the first, but a 25-point outburst in the second gave them a lead they wouldn’t give up.
Saturday’s home court match up with Page was an early season battle of unbeatens, at least in regular season action. Through the first half it looked as if the Lobos would be the one still unbeaten at the end, due to their 21-10 half time edge.
Page came out of the locker room with different ideas and mounted a 44-29 second half comeback to edge the Lobos 54-50 in the closing moments of the game.
With that loss Snowflake had their regular season mark fall to 4-1. Having lodged both mid-season tournaments already the Lobos will now be off until returning to action on Jan. 9 when they travel to Alchesay to face the Falcons. The following day they will host St. Johns.
