The Lobo baseball team won just one of three games played last week leaving them in danger of playing on the road in the state play-in games, which will happen on April 27. Snowflake was ranked 18th on Saturday and would need to climb into the top 16 in order to host a play-in game. If they drop outside the top 24 they would miss out on the state tournament completely.
The Lobos were in Winslow on April 10, where they fell 8-3. Snowflake led 2-0 after scoring once in each of the first and second frames. Winslow answered by taking the lead for good with five runs in the bottom of the second. The Bulldogs added two more in the fourth and one in the sixth. Snowflake scored their final run in the top of the seventh.
Playing at St. Johns on April 11, Snowflake came out on the wrong end of an 11-7 outcome. With the game tied at 1-1 through two innings, the Redskins moved in front with four runs in the third. Snowflake rallied scoring three in the fourth and trailed briefly by just one. St. Johns matched their third inning with four more in the fourth, then scored once in each of the fifth and sixth innings to lead 11-4. Snowflake’s rally was cut short in the top of the seventh after scoring three runs.
Chase Williams went 1 for 3, with a triple. Traegon Standerfer was 1 for 3; Fernando Quintana, 1 for 5; Tyler Hall, 1 for 4; and Ricky Munger went 1 for 5 with a double.
Williams pitched three and two-thirds innings allowing seven runs on six hits with one strikeout and walked four. Munger worked two and one-half frames giving up four runs on three hits with five strikeouts and walked three.
Following their two losses, the Lobos bounced back in a good way with a 7-6 win over visiting Payson last Friday afternoon. Things didn’t look good early with the Longhorns scoring five runs in the first inning. Snowflake cut into that lead with three in the third and finally tied the game with two in the bottom of the sixth. Payson went on top 6-5, with a run in the top of the seventh only to see Snowflake catch and pass them with two runs in the bottom of the seventh to get the win.
Munger went 3 for 4; Brydon Hatch was 2 for 4, with a double; Joey Beecroft, 2 for 3; Traegon Standerfer, 1 for 3; Josh Beecroft, 1 for 4; Quintana, 1 for 4; and Tyler Hall went 1 for 2.
Standerfer pitched six and two-third innings giving up six runs, with two strikeouts and walked one.
Snowflake headed into their final four games with a 5-9 record. They hosted Holbrook on Tuesday and will host Round Valley today (Wednesday, April 18). On Friday they travel to Show Low, then will close out the regular season next Monday when they host Blue Ridge.
