Snowflake moved to 5-0 with a 49-18 romp over Marcos de Niza on Friday night. The loss was the Padres’ first of the season. The Lobos scored twice in the opening quarter, then matched that total in the second to lead 30-12 at the half. A dominant third quarter extended their lead to 49-12 heading into the fourth. Marcos de Niza found the endzone once in the final frame, resulting in the 49-18 final outcome.
Snowflake had a balanced offensive attack with just over 500 total yards of offense. Jacob LaDuke has a strong passing game. He completed 13 of 17 passes for 296 yards with 4 touchdowns.
Christian Smith had 4 catches for 84 yards with a score. Mason Raban caught 3 for 44 yards with a score. Gionn Jones had just 2 catches, but one went for a 65-yard touchdown. Colter Willis had a 66-yard scoring catch.
On the ground, Brenner Green rumbled his way to 141 yards and 2 touchdowns on just 11 carries. LaDuke carried 7 times, gaining 53 yards. Nate Hall picked up 15 yards on 3 runs. Maverick Greer carried once for 8 yards. McCoy Nortin made good on 3 of 4 extra point attempts.
Jones had 2 interceptions and Willis picked off 1 Padres pass attempt.
This week, the Lobos will put their unbeaten streak on the line when they travel to face Poston Butte. The Broncos are winless on the season and struggle to score points, including their 43-14 loss to Peoria last week. They average just over 11 points per game and were shut out by Marcos de Niza, whom Snowflake just beat.
Snowflake can certainly put points on the board. On paper, this game is a huge mismatch. Look for the Lobos to easily extend this year’s win streak to six games on Friday. This will also be their first Desert Sky region game of the year.
