Facing a good Wolves team after a long road trip to Goodyear was a large obstacle for the Lobos to overcome especially having to come from behind to secure the 28-21 win advancing their early season mark to 2-0.

Both teams fought to a scoreless tie through the first period and midway into the second before Estrella Foothills took the lead on a one-yard plunge to lead 7-0. The Lobos answered with around three minutes left in the half on a 42-yard touchdown catch and run by Kurt Wood. The point after attempt failed leaving the Lobos trailing 7-6 at the half.

Early in the third quarter the Wolves scored on a 55-yard run, edging their lead out to 14-6. Snowflake countered later in the period with a three-yard run by Trevor McCray. The Lobos attempted to tie the game with a two-point conversion run but failed, leaving them down 14-12.

Snowflake quickly fell further behind as the Wolves returned the ensuing kick off 90-yards for a score. The point after kick pushed the margin to 21-12 heading into the fourth quarter.

Near the midpoint of the fourth, the Lobos pulled closer on a five-yard rushing touchdown from Lane Penrod. A successful conversion run left Snowflake down 21-10 with plenty of time still on the clock. Snowflake’s defense pinned the Wolves back in their own territory then the Lobos came up with a big turnover and an 18-yard return for the game winning points.

Snowflake’s tough early schedule continues on Sept. 12 with a home game against a solid Seton Catholic team, which comes in 2-0 after wins over Estrella Foothills and Maricopa.
