Baseball 1 Snowflake 2

Snowflake is headed to their spring break with an overall winning mark at 5-4 after going 2-1 in action last week. Hosting Window Rock on Monday, the Lobos had little trouble handing the Scouts a 24-0 shut out loss.

After being held without a run in the first inning the Lobos more than made up for it in the second where they scored 13 runs. Eight more came in the third and they finished things up with 3 in the fourth.

The team combined for 20 hits lead by Ricky Munger who went 4 for 5; Joey Beecroft was 3 for 4; Cody Fox, 2 for 4; Josh Beecroft, 2 for 3; Braedon Davis, 1 for 3; Fernando Quintana, 2 for 3; Tyler Hall, 2 for 4; Brydon Hatch, 2 for 3; and Chase Williams was 2 for 3.

Quintana and Williams each hit triples; and Hatch and Munger both had doubles.

Quintana, Hall and Nathanael Owens combined to work the five innings on the hills where they gave up just one hit with four collective strikeouts.

Snowflake hosted Safford on Thursday, where they could have used some of the 24 runs they scored against Window Rock. The Lobos were held without a run until the bottom of the sixth. By that point they were down 8-0 before scoring five runs to get back into the game. Safford scored two more runs in the top of the seventh to lead 10-5. Snowflake tried to mount a challenge with three in the bottom of the seventh, but that is where the comeback ended.

Hatch went 3 for 3; Josh Beecroft, Hall and Munger each went 2 for 4; and Joey Beecroft was 1 for 3.

Munger started the game on the hill working three innings where he gave up seven runs with one strikeout. Joey Beecroft worked the final four innings allowing three runs with a strikeout and two walks.

Traveling to Thatcher on Friday, Snowflake bounced back with a 6-4 win. The Eagles led 3-2 after the first inning. The Lobos tied the game at three with a run in the top of the second. That score held until the top of the fifth where Snowflake moved ahead by one. Thatcher battled back tying the game at four heading into the final frame. In the top of the seventh Snowflake broke the tie with two runs, then held defensively to get the win.

Snowflake will be off for spring break and will resume action on March 20 when they host Florence. Two days later they open east region play by hosting Winslow.
