By Greg Perkins The Lobos took care of Holbrook twice in the middle of the week but got upended by Blue Ridge in a close game on Friday. Hosting the Roadrunners on Tuesday, the Lobos gave up a first inning run to Holbrook but then scored eight runs through the first six innings to secure the 8-1 region win. Snowflake had just five hits in the game led by a triple from Jace LeSueur. Brevin Matthews went 2 for 3. Caden Cantrell and Tristan Cluff each had one hit. Cantrell worked all seven innings on the hill giving up just one run on one hit with five walks and tallied 10 strikeouts. The same two teams met in Holbrook the following day. A big third inning for the Lobos propelled them to a 12-8 win over an improving Holbrook team. Snowflake scored nine runs in the top of the third and led 11-0 at that point. Holbrook outscored them 8-1 over the final five innings, but the big third frame gave them enough of a cushion to hang on for the win. Rhett Wengert went 3 for 5; Matthews, 2 for 2; Braden Frost, 2 for 4; and Caden Cantrell was 2 for 3. Garret Rapier had the only extra-base hit with a double. Rapier also worked four innings on the hill giving up two runs on five hits, with three walks and two strikeouts. Ashton Munger pitched two innings allowing six runs on six hits, with a pair of walks and three strikeouts. Playing in Blue Ridge on Friday, both teams scored once in the first inning. Snowflake moved in front 4-1 with three second inning runs only to see the Jackets trim the lead to one with two in the third. The Lobos moved back in front by three, with two in the fourth. Leading 6-3 the Lobos appeared on track for another win but Blue Ridge mounted a charge and scored five in the bottom of the fifth to overtake Snowflake and hand them their second region loss. The 8-6 setback was also just their second overall season loss. After getting a home-field rematch with Blue Ridge on Tuesday, Snowflake will travel to Gilbert Christian on Thursday for a non-region contest. On Friday they return to east region play with a home field game vs Show Low. Next Tuesday they will face the Cougars in Show Low. Snowflake enters this week with an overall record of 9-2.
