Snowflake picked up two east region wins last week with victories over Winslow on Tuesday and Payson on Friday.

Tuesday’s road win in Winslow saw both teams struggle out of the gate, with the Bulldogs holding a 5-4 lead after the first eight minutes. In the second, the Lobos were outscored 20-16 leaving them trailing by five points at the half. In the third period they erased that deficit and built a four-point lead going into the final eight minutes where they outscored the Bulldogs by two points to win the game 55-49.

Friday’s game in Payson was a little more comfortable. Snowflake led by eight points after the first, but saw that margin cut in half by the end of the second quarter. The third period saw them double up the Longhorns and in the fourth, they extended the lead to the final fifteen-point margin at 66-51.

With the two wins the Lobos improved to 12-3 overall and they are now 7-2 in regular season games. Prior to Friday’s win, they were ranked 12th in the 3A PowerPoint rankings.

This week they will host a struggling 29th-ranked Window Rock Scout team on Wednesday then remain home on Friday to welcome in No. 19 Show Low. Next Tuesday they travel to Holbrook to face a top-10 Roadrunner team.
