By Greg Perkins The Snowflake Lobos open the football season on Friday night with a short trip to Holbrook, where they will take on a Roadrunner team hoping to pull off what would have to be considered a huge upset. The Lobos finished last season with an overall mark of 10-2, losing to Florence in the second round of the state play-offs. Holbrook is coming off a disappointing season with just one victory and now has its fourth new head coach in as many seasons. Snowflake is heading into this year’s campaign missing overall offensive leader Chase Walden, who injured his knee this summer and isn’t expected to return until very late in the season, if at all. Despite that huge loss, the Lobos still have plenty of firepower to derail the Roadrunners. With games against Holbrook and Alchesay in the first two weeks, the Lobos will get some quality game experience, allowing the team to gel before heading into the third week of the season, where they match up with defending state champion and heavy title favorite Blue Ridge.
