The Lobos picked up three wins in their first week of action since returning to the court after the holiday break.

Facing a stubborn Mogollon Mustang team in Heber on Tuesday, Snowflake led by just two points at the half, but pulled away late for a 66-56 win.

Tanner Yellowhair led the team with 18 points. Reggie Peterson added 13, Dallin Merrell, 9, Rick Shumway, 8, and Chase Walden, 7.

Hosting Payson on Thursday night, Snowflake edged the Longhorns by three in each of the first two periods to hold a six-point halftime edge. They stretched that lead by one in the third, then closed the deal with a four-point cushion in the final eight minutes to win the game 51-40.

Facing his former school, Walden led the Lobos with 15 points. Yellowhair added 8, and Shumway and Petersen netted 5 each as the primary Lobo scorers.

On Friday night the Lobos were in Winslow, where they fell behind early after getting knocked on their heels by an aggressive Bulldog team.

“They came out strong and we really had to battle back. We didn’t have our first lead until the middle of the fourth quarter. Then we were able to pull away late. We gave up a couple of easy buckets at the end, but won the game 58-54,” said Coach Andy Wood.

The Lobos trailed by four points at the half and were still down by three when the fourth quarter began, but a seven-point edge in the final period was enough to give them their 11th win of the season against just three losses.

Walden again led the Lobo attack, scoring 15 points. Yellowhair added 12, Shumway had 11 and Merrell netted 9.
