The Lobos dropped their final two games of the regular season and with it a chance to host a first round state playoff game. The good news is that they will be in the 24-team field when the state tournament gets underway next week. Snowflake entered this week ranked 19th in power points and even though the regular season is over, there is still a handful of games to be played this week in other regions that don’t have a region tournament. It is doubtful the Lobos could move up to the 16th position without playing any more games, so they will be on the road for the first round of state.
Their 37-43 loss at Show Low last Tuesday, along with their 88-76 home court loss to Blue Ridge on Saturday, moved them into fifth place in the East Region. As the fifth seed they were slated travel to Holbrook on Tuesday to face the fourth seeded Roadrunners. With a win they would move on to face Blue Ridge on Thursday, Feb. 9, in Lakeside. If they make the title game, it would be played at the site of the higher seed.
The regional tournament games do not count toward power point rankings, so basically these will be tune-up games for the state playoffs.
