The Lobos have hit a rough stretch in their basketball schedule, dropping three straight games played last week.
They began the week on Tuesday with a 66-49 loss at Holbrook, which, like Snowflake, is in a rebuilding mode after losing several key seniors from last year’s unit.
Trey Schneider netted four in the first period, but the rest of the team struggled to score and Snowflake quickly trailed by 10 after the first. In the second the Lobos scored better, but the halftime margin was 12. Both teams played well in the third, with Holbrook extending its lead by just one. In the fourth the Lobos again scored well, but they also allowed the Roadrunners to score well, resulting in the 17-point loss.
Trey Schneider finished with 12 points to lead the team. Garrett Wood added 7; Dylan Kay, 6; Tanner Willis, 5; Mason Willis, Koy Kelley, Garson Hatch and Zach Solomon, 4 each; and Dallin Chapman, 3.
Hosting Show Low on Friday night the Lobos came up short in a 52-43 loss.
On Saturday they traveled to Thatcher to face a talented Eagles team and played well, but left for home with a 48-44 loss.
The Lobos entered this week with an overall record of 8-13. They also entered the week ranked 24th in the rankings, which is a perilous place to be. Only 24 teams make the post season in 3A this year, so Snowflake needs to get some wins to get off that bubble.
Their schedule this week is not a favorable one. After playing at Blue Ridge, the number one team in the East Region, on Tuesday, the Lobos will play at No. 2 Winslow on Friday, Jan. 20. On Tuesday, Jan. 24, they travel to face Payson. Snowflake is still searching for its first region win of the year.
