Snowflake’s home football game against Seton Catholic last Friday was billed as a match between two playoff contenders, and both teams pretty well lived up to those expectations.
Snowflake grabbed the lead at the four minute mark of the first period on a one-yard touchdown plunge to lead 7-0 with the PAT. Late in the opening period the Sentinels tied the game on a 15-yard touchdown pass.
Midway through the second the home team moved back in front with a three-yard scoring run, pushing the lead to 14-7. Just two minutes later the guests again knotted things up with a 21-yard touchdown run. Late in the first half the Sentinels took their first lead of the game on a 10-yard touchdown pass, but went to the half ahead only 20-14, having missed the point after.
The second half turned into a defense struggle with the only points coming late in the third period on a Seton Catholic field goal, handing Snowflake its first loss of the year, 23-14.
The Sentinels finished with 292 yards of total offense. With the win Seton Catholic improved to 3-0 and the Lobos dropped to 2-1.
The Lobos will have a chance to bounce back this week when they travel to Winslow. Not only did the Bulldogs get bowled over by Round Valley on Friday for their first loss of the year, they have struggled in recent matchups with the Lobos. The past two seasons have gone the way of Snowflake, both by lopsided scores.
