The Lobos saw their early regular season schedule balance out at 1-1 after losing to Safford on Dec. 6. That loss followed their season-opening win over Alchesay. Hosting the Bulldogs, Asher Brewer had a big night dropping in 19 points with seven boards but it wasn’t enough to outlast the visitors who defeated the Lobos 56-50.

Snowflake stepped out of regular season play to compete in the Pepsi Tournament held in Flagstaff over three days. The Lobos faced a team called Johnson Country from Tennessee in the first round on Thursday. The game was close but Snowflake fell 40-35.

Their second-round game was a 47-40 win over Desert View from the Valley. That win advanced them to face ALA-West Foothills early Friday morning. Snowflake won that match-up with the Guardians 69-62, moving them forward on the bracket to face Kingman Academy. The game against the Tigers was the most lopsided game of the tournament for the Lobos, who prevailed 54-36.

Snowflake’s final tournament game was on Saturday afternoon against a familiar foe. The Winslow Bulldogs had also advanced to this same point. With both teams more than likely holding back much of their arsenal for future 3A East region meetings, the Bulldogs defeated the Lobos 48-36.

Snowflake is now 4-3 overall on the season. They return to regular season play on Thursday with a home game with Round Valley. On Saturday, they remain home to welcome in Ganado. Next Tuesday they will host Winslow in one of the aforementioned east region battles. Snowflake’s final game before Christmas will be on Dec. 20, when they travel to Tuba City.
