Playing in the first round of the Division III State Baseball Tournament as the 11th overall seed, the Lobos met up with a familiar foe, 22nd ranked Blue Ridge. Snowflake had beaten the Yellowjackets in both regular season meetings, winning 3-2 in the first matchup and 3-1 in the second. This time around it was Blue Ridge with the win, but not until the two teams battled to a 1-1 tie through 14 innings of a post-season pitchers dual. Blue Ridge finally scored three runs in the 15th inning, closing the curtain on Snowflake’s season.
The Lobos earned a split in their final two regular season games, beating Show Low last Tuesday, 11-0, and falling to Winslow the following day, 6-3.
In the Show Low contest, Tyler Hanson went 2 for 3 at the plate. Tarren Reidhead was 1 for 3; Dalon Reidhead, 1 for 1; Jr. Fox, 1 for 3; Ty Pawlik, 2 for 2; Jake Lyman, 1 for 1; Tyler Claridge, 1 for 3; and Jake Stewart, 1 for 2.
Hanson pitched five innings of shutout ball. He allowed just five hits with seven strikeouts and walked none.
Facing Winslow in their final regular season game, Snowflake started well enough with two first inning runs, but fell behind when the Bulldogs scored three in the bottom of the first. The Lobos tied the game in the second, but trailed for good after Winslow scored once in the second to lead 4-3. The Bulldogs added two more insurance runs in the fifth to secure the win.
Snowflake closed the season with an overall record of 18-10.
