The Lobos have struggled since the new year began, winning just one of their seven games played this month, and they head into this week’s action mired in a five-game losing streak. They also find themselves sitting on the edge of the top 24 in the power rankings, namely at 23rd ranking at the beginning of this week.

Snowflake’s past two seasons have been very successful, but as is the case with most 3A level or smaller schools, it is tough to stay at the top for an extended time primarily due to losing talented and experienced seniors each year. Coach Wood has a good group of athletes, and they still have a couple of weeks to put things together. The program also has a tremendous amount of state tournament success to rely on if they can reach the post-season.

Last week the Lobos dropped both match-ups, losing at Blue Ridge on Tuesday by a final of 83-65. They also fell on the road in Winslow on Friday, 82-64.

The Lobos are 3-10 in power point contests and 8-15 overall on the season. With two weeks and five games left in the regular season they need to garner some wins to guarantee a return trip to the state playoffs. After playing at Payson on Tuesday, the Lobos will host Round Valley on Thursday, Jan. 26, then welcome in Holbrook the next night. Next week they wrap up the regular season with a trip to Show Low on Tuesday, Jan. 31, followed by a home match up with Blue Ridge on Friday, Feb. 3.
