Snowflake’s Lobos began the new year much like they left off before the holiday break, adding two more wins to their total.
Hosting Holbrook on Tuesday the Lobos battled to a tie through the first, but pulled away to a nine-point halftime lead with a big second period. That margin turned out to be enough in the second half, with the Snowflake squad making its free throws in the fourth period to secure a 61-52 win.
Kurt Wood led the Lobos with 13 points. Kegan Bjorn added 12; Travis Flake, 10; Gunner Caldwell, 9; Caedon Ervien, 4; and Tanner Crosby, 3. Snowflake hit three treys, with two coming from Wood, and went 12 for 18 from the free throw line, but made all nine fourth quarter attempts.
Hosting Sedona on Thursday, Snowflake turned a three-point first period lead into a 16-point halftime cushion thanks to another big second period. The Lobos moved further in front in the third, then settled for a comfortable 72-47 win.
Caldwell led nine players in scoring with 16 points. Ervien and Flake added 12 each; Bjorn 9; Wood, 7; Jordan Gardner, 7 with 11 boards; Ty Pawlick and Crosby, 4 each; and Eldon McCray, 1.
With the win the Lobos improved to 13-2 overall, and remained unbeaten and on top in the power point rankings heading into this week. After hosting Show Low on Tuesday, they will play at Alchesay on Thursday, Jan. 15, then travel to Kayenta on Saturday, Jan. 17, to face the Mustangs. On Tuesday, Jan. 20, they will host Alchesay.
