The Lobos headed into the Estrella Foothills baseball tournament over the weekend on the heels of a 5-3 divisional power point win over Round Valley the previous Monday.

In that game, both teams struggled to find much offense through the first four innings, with Snowflake holding just a 1-0 lead heading into the fifth. In the top of the fifth the Lobos found their stride, pushing across four runs to build a 5-0 lead. The Elks also came alive in the home half of the frame, but Snowflake stopped that momentum after just three runs had scored, leaving the Lobos with a two-run cushion which held up through the end of the game. That was their eighth power point win against only two losses.

Cameron Webster earned the win on the hill with four innings of work, facing 14 batters. He allowed no runs, and only one hit with a walk and three strikeouts. Ricky Montejano pitched the final three innings, facing 13 batters. He gave up three runs, all earned, with two hits, three walks and six strikeouts.

At the plate, Dallin Fusselman went two for three and scored a run. Freddy Pinkley was two for three with an RBI. Tanner Yellowhair went two for four with a stolen base and scored a run. Josh Kelley was one for two and scored. Hayden Bauer went one for three. Montejano was one for two with an RBI, stole a base and scored a run. Nate Kelley reached base on an error and later scored a run.

The Lobos opened play in the Estrella Foothills tournament on Thursday afternoon, falling to Florence 7-2 in their first outing. The Lobos had problems with Gopher pitching, which held Snowflake to just four hits, two from GR Adams, and one each from Yellowhair and Montejano.

In their next two tournament games the Lobos dropped one-run decisions.

Facing Cortez early Friday morning, they fell behind by four runs after three innings, but battled back to tie the game at 5-5 and force extra frames. Cortez scored once in the eighth to win the game 6-5.

Later that night the Lobos lost to Verrado in a slugfest, 14-13. The Lobos trailed 8-0 through four innings, then fought their way back with 13 runs over the final three innings to temporarily take a four-run lead. Verrado came from behind with five runs in the seventh to get the win despite being outhit by the Lobos, 17 to 12.

Early Saturday morning the Lobos bounced back with a solid 8-2 win over rival Show Low. Snowflake scored twice in the first to gain the early edge, then built on that lead in the fifth and sixth innings to secure the win.

The Lobos headed into this week’s action with a mark of 8-2 in power point games, ranking them 16th. After hosting St. Johns on Tuesday they will be at Winslow on Thursday, then host Alchesay on Friday. Snowflake is 9-7 overall on the season.
