The Snowflake Lobos easily got past Blue Ridge in their final tune up before the state football playoffs, ending the Yellowjackets’ season with a 28-6 loss. This game used to be a big event on the Mountain, but with the Jackets out of the state playoff picture, the game lost its luster as what used to be a big end of the season match up.
The Lobos scored just once in the first, but added two more in the second to lead 21-0 at the half. Their defense kept Blue Ridge out of the end zone until the fourth quarter in the win. Snowflake’s defense held Blue Ridge to just five passing yards and 109 on the ground for a total of 114 yards in a supreme effort. The Yellowjackets avoided the shutout with a fourth quarter score.
Snowflake finished with 318 total yards. Trey Schneider completed 10 of 20 passes for 118 yards with two touchdowns. JT Tate caught three for 71 yards and a score. Trenton Hatch had two catches for 15 yards and a score. Tanner Willis had two receptions for 15 yards. Zach Solomon had a nine-yard catch and Teagan Peterson had one eight-yard grab.
Peterson led the rushing attack with 87 yards and a score on 17 rushes. Solomon carried 12 times, gaining 77 yards with a score. Willis had five carries for 41 yards.
Snowflake completed the regular season with a 9-1 overall record. Last week’s loss to Show Low cost the Lobos the top spot in the state tournament as the Cougars took over the No. 1 spot. Snowflake dropped to second overall and will host No. 15 Payson on Saturday, Nov. 5, in the opening round of the 3A state playoffs.
These two teams met just three weeks ago in Payson when the Lobos held on for a 26-21 win. Since that loss Payson has won three straight and despite the rankings, this could be one of the better first round match ups.
If the Lobos win, they would host either No. 7 Northwest Christian or No. 10 Pusch Ridge at 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 11. A loss this Saturday will end the season for either the Lobos or the Longhorns.
