Snowflake bounced back from last week’s 7-0 shutout loss to Cactus with a 19-3 road win at Bradshaw Mountain on Friday night. Snowflake took the opening kick-off and marched down the field with a long time-consuming drive capped off with a one-yard plunge by JJ Lerma making the score 7-0 with Bradden Lewis’s point after boot. That drive took nearly half the first period.

Bradshaw Mountains’ first possession resulted in a successful 43-yard field goal, pulling the Bears within four points of the Lobos late in the first period. Snowflake’s defense got the next points in the game registering a safety with about five minutes left in the half, extending their lead to 0-3. That defensive score gave the Lobos some momentum and once getting the ball back on the free kick they marched down and scored three more points on a Sam Brown 40-yard field goal near the end of the first half making the score 12-3.

Early in the third period, special teams got into the action with a blocked punt giving the Lobos the ball in great field position. The offense took advantage a few plays later when Jett McCray scored on a short dive pushing the lead to 19-3 with Brown’s point after kick. Neither team scored the remainder of the game leaving the Lobos with a solid 19-3 road win.

Easton Butler completed 17 of 25 passes for 129 yards with an interception. Tyler Clare led the receiving corps with eight catches for 47 yards. Lance Christensen had three for 46; Lerma, four for 31; Jett McCray, one for 3; and Karter Raban had one two-yard catch.

McCray led the rushing attack with 41 yards on 15 attempts. Lerma carried seven times picking up 20 yards and Butler gained eight yards on four rushes.

This week the Lobos, now 4-1 on the season, will host ALA Gilbert North. The Eagles are one of the other 3A teams that made the move to 4A this year. They are 3-2 overall and are coming in off a 19-40 loss to ALA Queen Creek last week. The game being in Snowflake should be enough for the Lobos to pick up another tough win.
