By Greg Perkins Snowflake could easily have been caught looking ahead to next week’s huge potential east region title game with second ranked and unbeaten Round Valley, before their game with Winslow on Friday night. But their performance against the Bulldogs on Friday night showed no signs of lack of focus as they shut out Winslow 55-0 in a dominating performance. Sam Crockett got the scoring started early in the contest with a 33-yard field goal posting the Lobo’s first three points. Caden Cantrell capped off Snowflake’s second possession of the game with a short four-yard run, pushing the lead to 10-0 midway through the opening frame. Following a Kaiden Brewer interception of a Winslow pass, the Lobos scored again with a 15-yard pass from Cantrell to Noah Baum making the margin 17-0. Snowflake scored again late in the period with a second Cantrell to Baum connection, this one coming from 20 yards out making the lead 24-0 with Crockett’s point after kick. Cantrell threw his third touchdown of the night early in the second period hooking up with Tyler Clare from 25 yards out making the score 31-0. Touchdown number four for Cantrell came just one minute later when he found Baum for the third time in the first half. Baum’s catch and run from 20 yards out pushed the margin to 38-0 early in the second period. Snowflake’s defense simply shut down the Bulldog’s offense throughout the first half. Their offense didn’t miss a stride. Rhett Wengert scored on a short run with seven minutes left in the second period pushing the lead to 45-0 and making the rest of the game go by quickly with the 42-point running clock rule in effect for the rest of the game. Jett McCray scored the final Lobo touchdown of the night with three minutes left in the half on a 41-yard run. Crockett’s kick pushed the lead to 52-0 at the half. Crockett started the scoring in the game and he also ended the scoring early in the fourth with a 24-yard field goal for the final points in the 55-0 win. Cantrell had an impressive stat column completing seven of his 12 passes for 148 yards with four touchdowns and no picks. Baum caught three of those passes for 55 total yards with all three catches going for touchdowns. Clare had two receptions for 41 yards with one score. Lance Christensen had one catch for 30 yards and Camden Brimhall had one for 22 yards. Brimhall was the leading rusher with 91 yards on 14 carries. Jett McCray was 3 for 55; Cantrell, 6 for 33; Gavin Caldwell, 1 for 28; Christensen, 2 for 26; Wengert, 3 for 19; Easton Butler, 1 for 14; DaVyn McCray, 1 for 13; and Gage Papa carried once for 1 yard. With the win, the Lobos improved to 7-1 on the season and will more than likely move up to number three in the rankings with River Valley suffering their first loss of the season. This week they will take on second ranked Round Valley. The Elks are unbeaten on the season including last week’s very impressive 51-7 win over 4A Estrella Foothills. This game will be played in the dome which give Round Valley a slight edge. Regardless of the outcome of Friday’s game, these two teams could very well see each other again in the late stages of the 3A playoffs.
