By Greg Perkins The boys Lobo soccer team moved their overall season record to 4-2 with an 11-1 road win at Holbrook on Wednesday. The match was scoreless through the midpoint of the first half, but in the second, Snowflake began to pull away. Playing one player down with just 10 players, the Roadrunners hung tough for a while but eventually Snowflake’s bench and athleticism allowed them to pull away and end the game at the 60-minute mark under the soccer mercy rule. This week the Lobos will host a 1-6 St. Johns team on Wednesday. The following day they travel to Blue Ridge. The 2A rankings were released last week and Snowflake finds themselves in the fifth position. Blue Ridge is ranked second; Show Low, seventh, Payson, eighth; Round Valley, 11th; and St. Johns 16th. The Lady Lobos split their two matches played last week. On Tuesday they defeated visiting Holbrook 8-0. Friday’s match in Chino Valley didn’t go quite as well with the Lobos finishing on the wrong side of a 3-5 final outcome. The Lady Lobo team landed in the fourth position of the initial 2A power rankings. St. Johns is one spot ahead in third; Round Valley, fifth; Show Low, sixth; Blue Ridge, seventh; Holbrook, eighth; and Payson is in 10th place. After playing at Round Valley on Tuesday, Snowflake will have a week off to prepare for their match in Show Low on Oct. 20.
