With the resignation of Holbrook’s Vice Mayor Wade Carlisle, the Holbrook City Council held a special meeting on June 5, and agreed to accept letters of interest to find a replacement for the vacated seat.
The council has 31 days to fill the vacancy and the council agreed that letters should be submitted to City Clerk Cher Reyes by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 20.
Reyes said, “Persons who are applying must have resided in the city limits for at least two years prior to possible appointment and have never been convicted of a felony or any offense in violation of official duties. They also cannot be employed by the City of Holbrook.”
Once the letters are received Reyes will verify that all qualifications are met and then submit them to the council, with final decision being made at the June 26 meeting.
Reyes also reminded the council that the person filling the vacated seat would only hold that position until the next election in May of 2019, even though Carlisle’s remaining term is for three years.
During a discussion regarding the upcoming budget, members of the council voiced concerns that Finance Director Randy Sullivan was not present at the meeting. Reyes noted that as Interim City Manager, Sullivan had received permission from the council via a prior amendment that he did not have to attend the meetings. Mayor Bobby Tyler replied that it did not exclude him from being at the meeting as the finance director.
Wischmann requested that the city’s attorney be consulted on this matter and that she be at the next meeting. Tyler apologized to the audience stating, “I had hoped this would be a productive meeting on the budget.”
Further discussion of the budget was tabled until the next meeting.
