By Greg Perkins Following two early week wins over Alchesay and Sedona, the Lady Wildcats found themselves ranked third in the 1A power points heading into Friday’s doubleheader with Bagdad. That ranking will more than likely drop a little following two losses to the Sultans who were ranked No. 2 when the two teams met on Friday. Playing in Whiteriver on Tuesday, Joseph City had little problems getting past the Lady Falcons. The Wildcats cruised to an 18-3 road win. On Wednesday, Joseph City returned home to host Sedona, and they weren’t real gracious hosts, sending the Scorpions home in five innings with a 22-12 loss. Those two wins set them up for their doubleheader in Bagdad on Friday. The first game saw Bagdad score seven runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back. Joseph City scored their only run in the top of the third. The Sultans tacked on three more in the third and ended the game under the 10-run rule with seven additional runs in the fourth to win the game 17-1. The second game was close at least through the opening inning where each team scored a run. Bagdad then pushed five across in the second, then added one in the fourth and two in the fifth. Both teams again scored single runs in the sixth but Bagdad prevailed 10-2, leaving Joseph City with an overall record of 5-3 heading into this week’s action. The Lady Wildcats will have played a doubleheader at Round Valley on Monday, they then will have hosted Williams on Tuesday before getting some considerable time off. Following Tuesday’s home game with Williams, they won’t play again until April 22 at Mohave Accelerated in Phoenix. Despite their two losses to second ranked Bagdad, the Lady Wildcats should remain inside the top five when the 1A rankings are released on Monday morning.
