By Greg Perkins Joseph City’s Lady Wildcats won both of their games played last week. Games originally scheduled with Basis from Flagstaff on Tuesday and Superior on Friday were canceled. The Lady Cats did get two games in and both were wins, one in a comfortable fashion and the other a nail biter. Joseph City took care of Ash Fork 49-16 on Thursday, then made it two wins in a row on their home court with a huge 49-48 win over visiting Williams on Saturday afternoon. Those two wins improved the Lady Wildcat’s overall record to 6-6 and should have them ranked inside the top 10 when the new rankings come out on Tuesday. Joseph City was ranked 10th heading into Saturday’s upset win over previously third-ranked Williams team. Like the boys’ team, the Lady Wildcats have a tough task ahead this week. They will face fifth ranked Mogollon in back-to-back contests, with the first played on Tuesday in Heber followed by the second played at home on Thursday. Then they will travel to see 12th ranked Ray in the regular-season finale on Friday. The girls 1A state tournament begins on Saturday, March 6, with the second round played on Wednesday, March 10. Each of the first two rounds will be at the site of the higher-seeded team.
