The Lady Wildcats lost just their second regular season game of the season on Saturday, after picking up two more wins earlier in the week.

Their week began on Monday for the top-ranked team in 1A. Playing at Phoenix Christian, the Wildcats had to hold off a late-game rally by the hometown Cougars to secure a 9-7 road win. Joseph City opened the scoring with a pair of first inning runs, then added 2 more in the third. The Cougars scored once in the second and matched the Cats with 2 in the third. In the fourth, Joseph City scored 4 runs, creating some space. They added their ninth run in the sixth innings. Phoenix Christian rallied in the bottom of the seventh with two runs, but that was as close as they would get.

Joseph City welcomed in St. Johns on Thursday and despite a slow start they sent the Lady Redskins packing with a 12-3 defeat. Joseph City led 1-0 through two innings, and after St. Johns knotted the game at 1-1 in the top of the third, the Wildcats answered with 6 runs in the home half of the frame. St. Johns scored twice in the sixth, but the Wildcats again answered with another 4 runs to put the game away.

On Saturday, Joseph City returned to the Valley to face what is apparently a very good Horizon Honors team. The Eagles are ranked second in 2A and proved worthy of that with a 12-2 five-inning win over Joseph City. Horizon jumped out early with 5 runs in the first, and Joseph City was never able to mount a charge. The Eagles attained the 10-run rule limit with 4 runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Joseph City will play twice this week. They host 18th-ranked Mayer on Thursday, then travel to face No. 3 Bagdad on Friday. Next Thursday, they travel to Williams.

Joseph City enters this week with a 19-3 overall record. They are 9-1 in regular-season games.
