The Lady Wildcats of Joseph City had a strong beginning to January, posting three straight wins last week.
On Saturday they took care of Fredonia, downing the Lady Lynx 56-38.
Thursday’s game at Ash Fork was an impressive defensive outing for the Cats. They shut out the Lady Spartans in the first period, then limited them to just 14 points in a 40-14 final outcome.
Tuesday’s home game against Northland Prep was another solid defensive effort. Joseph City held those Lady Spartans to only four points through the first eight minutes. Northland Prep trimmed the lead to seven at the half, but Joseph City controlled both the third and fourth quarters to secure a 50-30 win. Katelyn Pugh led all scorers, finishing with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Krista Edwards added 9; Lindi Gardner, 8; Sadie Tuckfield and Taylor Elmer, 4 each; and Allison Bushman, Amanda Baldwin and Sierra Rogers, 2 each.
With the three wins Joseph City improved its overall mark to 12-5. The Cats need to keep winning to secure a spot inside the final 24 in the Division IV power point ranking to reach the state tournament. After hosting Mogollon on Tuesday they will have a long road trip to Colorado City on Saturday, Jan. 17, to face El Capitan. On Tuesday, Jan. 20, they will host Cibecue.
