The Lady Wildcats of Joseph City head into the final two weeks of the regular season still on the cusp of reaching the state tournament by finishing the season ranked in the top 24 in the Division IV standings, which is where they were heading into this week’s action after losing two of three games played last week.

Hosting Cibecue on Tuesday, the hometown Cats fell to the visiting Lady Wildcats by a final of 53-49.

Joseph City took out some frustrations on Friday at Superior, thumping the Lady Panthers 44-18 thanks to a big opening period where the Wildcats outscored Superior 18-4. Joseph City’s defense was up to the task, giving up just 10 first-half points, then pitching a shutout in the third quarter.

The Cats could have used the same defensive effort on Saturday when they fell on the road to second ranked Fort Thomas by a final of 58-56. Joseph City played well against the highly ranked Lady Apaches, but came up just short.

After playing at Mogollon on Tuesday, Joseph City will host St. Johns on Friday, Jan. 30, then play at Red Mesa on Saturday, Jan. 31. Next week the Cats wrap up the regular season with a road trip to Hayden on Wednesday, Feb. 4, followed by a home game against Ray on Friday, Feb. 6.
