It took extra innings but 10th ranked Holbrook was able to battle back from behind and take down ninth ranked Show Low on March 27, defeating the Lady Cougars in Holbrook by a final of 7-6 in nine innings.
Show Low lead 3-0 after the first three innings. Holbrook fought back to tie the game with three runs in the fourth. Show Low moved back in front with single runs in the fifth and sixth frame pushing their advantage to 5-3.
Holbrook came back again with a run in the home half of the 6th, then trailing by one in the bottom of the seventh. Madison Chappell doubled then tied the game up on a base hit from Kallee Reidhead. Reidhead was then thrown out at the plate following a double by Carla Plumb. Had she scored that would have ended it after seven innings.
In the bottom of the ninth a fielder’s choice hit by Reidhead and a single from Plumb set the table for Canela Queiruga who hit a deep fly ball to left with two outs. The ball was misplayed by the Show Low defense allowing Holbrook to score twice securing the one run win.
With the win Holbrook will more than likely leap frog Show Low in the standings later in the week.
Holbrook hosted Snowflake on Friday, then traveled to Monument Valley on Saturday. On Tuesday they played at rival Winslow. The Roadrunners, now 6-1 in regular season games will most likely move inside the top 10 in the rankings.
