The Lady Roadrunners picked up their 19th win of the season on Tuesday night in Payson handing the 11th ranked Longhorns a 74-38 setback. Second ranked Holbrook attacked Payson’s 1-3-1 zone with a barrage of three-point shots in the first period. Holbrook made six buckets in the first eight minutes and each one was a three-point shot, leaving the Birds on top 18-11 after one. Tyanna Johnson hit three, Elena Smith had two, and Tyler Pacheco connected once from distance in the opening quarter. In the second, Holbrook scored six conventional buckets along with three-pointers from Pacheco and Megan Cummings helping them build a 38-22 halftime edge. Matehya Aberle hit six in the paint and Tyler Pacheco added seven to her total in the third as Holbrook opened up the game. With a running clock in the fourth the Roadrunners still netted 15 while limiting the home team to just four in the win. Pacheco led the Birds in scoring with 19 points. Aberle got the start and responded with 15 points. Johnson added 14; Smith, 8; Cummings, 6; Twyla Clark, 5; Tristen Ambrose, 3; Shilaine Gorman, 2; and Dakota Dick helped with a field goal. Holbrook made six of seven free throws and connected on 10 three-point shots. Payson went one for seven at the line and hit three treys in the loss. “Their size bothered us early and they were able to get a slight lead early in the game. Once we started to hit some shots against their zone it seemed like we relaxed and played well. Tyler came out of a bit of a shooting slump. Tyanna and Elena continued to shoot well in the win. Matehya started the game in place of Madison who sat out nursing an injury, and she held her own against Payson’s two post players. Her game has been improving each day and it’s starting to pay off for her and for the team. Now we have to focus on Page,” said Coach Greg Perkins. Holbrook improved to 19-3 overall and 11-1 in regular season power ranked games. The Lady Roadrunners hosted Page, the team that handed them their only regular season loss, last Saturday at home.
