The Lady Roadrunners didn’t appear to have too much rust following an extended break as they returned to the court with a fairly solid 59-35 win over Payson last week. The Longhorns came into the contest ranked eighth in power points and Holbrook wasted little time in getting the upper hand. Holbrook netted 21 first period points behind a pair of treys from Megan Cummings and eight points in the paint from Matehya Aberle. In the second, Aberle added six more to her total and Madison Chappell was a huge menace on defense creating several Longhorn turnovers.

Chappell netted 6, Mika Joe and Terry Nez both had 5 and Aberle tacked 4 more onto her total. Holbrook got the game to a running clock situation in the fourth period but they failed to add any more points getting shut out in the final eight minutes.

Roadrunner Coach Greg Perkins noted, “I was concerned about how we would play following a six day off period but the girls came out really strong. We executed our plays well and we were quick on defense. We knew we had to somehow keep the ball away from their post players and for the most part we were able to do a decent job with that. They were ranked above us in the standings and it is always good to knock off someone ranked higher.”
