By Greg Perkins The Lady Roadrunners picked up two much needed wins last week with both wins coming over east region foes. On Tuesday night they were in Payson where they came away with a 3-1 win. Playing at home two nights later against Show Low the Lady Birds hung on for a 3-2 win in a highly competitive match. Holbrook won the first two games 25-16 and 25-23. Show Low battled back taking games three and four, 25-16, 25-20. The fifth and final game went the distance and then some with Holbrook eventually prevailing the game 16-14. That win improves Holbrook’s regular season record to 5-6. They were ranked 22nd following Thursday’s win, and will need to remain inside the top 24 in the 3A rankings to earn a post season playoff position. This week the Roadrunners will have just one match. They will have hosted Blue Ridge on Tuesday, then will have more than a week off to prepare for two matches during Fall Break. Oct. 14 they will host Payson then on the 15th Holbrook will host Winslow in a match that has been rescheduled from Oct. 7.
