The Lady Roadrunners picked up their first win of the season with a 46-43 road win at Ganado on Tuesday last week.

Angelica Uranga-Williams netted 4 in the first stanza, with Channing Harrington, Shayla Attakai, and Bailey Williams each hitting 1 field goal in the first eight minutes, giving Holbrook a 10-5 lead.

In the second, Camesha Bahe made Holbrook’s only 2 field goals, but the Birds went to the line where they converted 7 of 13 attempts to lead 21-20 at the half.

The only player to score for Holbrook in the third quarter was Williams who hit back-to-back treys, helping Holbrook stay within 4 points of the Hornets who led 33-29 with one quarter to play.

In the final eight minutes Williams made her way to the line for another 6 points, and Maya Francisco hit a big trey late in the game. Harrington’s driving layup in the final seconds secured the 3-point win for the Birds.

“It’s always good to get that first win for some confidence going forward. We didn’t shoot well at all and will need to improve on that quickly if we want to stay in games this week. Bailey stepped up her offensive game in this one, and Attakai did a great job defending one of their better players, keeping her at 7 points which was key for the win,” stated Coach Greg Perkins.

Williams led Holbrook in scoring with 16 points. Harrington added 1; Uranga Williams, 6; Francisco, 5; Bahe, 4; and Attakai and Ava each had 2. Holbrook made 3 treys and went 13 for 25 at the line.

Ganado was led by Jaycanna White’s 15 points. The Hornets made 3 treys and went 14 for 23 at the charity stripe.

Holbrook, now 1-2 will have a busy week ahead. Four games in six days. Wednesday, they host St. Johns, Thursday will be a girls-only night at Snowflake, then Saturday the teams will travel to Round Valley. Monday Holbrook will host Chinle in a game that was originally scheduled for Tuesday.
