The Lady Roadrunners dropped both matches in the final week of the regular season, dropping them out of the top 16 in the rankings and putting them on the road on Tuesday night in a 3A tournament play-in game.
The Holbrook squad was ranked 20th in the final power point rankings and had to travel to 13th seeded Florence on Tuesday to face the Lady Gophers, with the winner advancing to the state tournament on Friday, Nov. 3, where No. 4 Blue Ridge will be waiting.
Hosting Winslow on Senior Night last Tuesday, the Roadrunners struggled and a scrappy Lady Bulldog team took advantage, winning the match in three games.
The Birds then traveled to Payson on Thursday, where they were again blanked three games to none.
If the Roadrunners can upset 13th seeded Florence, they will officially be in the state tournament this weekend. If the Lady Gophers prevail, Holbrook’s season will come to a close.
The Roadrunners finished the regular season with a 7-11 mark.
